2 things: 1. It doesn't seem like a slap in the face at all. The truth is that certain fraternities look for certain characteristics in their rushes/pledges. Also, certain fraternities have certain stereotypes and "personalities". Kappa squid and tke are both great fraternities - the fact that they pointed you to TKE (and not a lower fraternity like fiji or sig ep) shows that they genuinely thought you'd be a good fit at another good frat. (At least, this is how it works for girls). 2. Plenty of sophomores rush and pledge "top" fraternities. Don't feel out of place, you'll do fine.
