I'm pretty sure that out of the 6-7 sororities that had informal PC's, only 2 actually had an event. So yes, email the recruitment chairs to get on their radar, but you should also try networking with girls in the chapter. I know of my chapter, we only took girls on sprite dates (basically a causal meeting with a few girls from the chapter) if they were recommended by someone in the chapter. So if you're a transfer: talk to your friends and see if they know girls in a sorority and ask them to put you in touch with them. If you aren't a transfer, hopefully you have friends in the chapter you want to join. It is possible to get an informal bid without knowing anyone, it's just more difficult to get your foot in the door
