Adding to that - if you maximize your options (so list all the houses you were invited to for pref round instead of leaving off one or two), you are guaranteed a bid. In fact, if you list all your houses, you mathematically have a better chance of getting into your top choice the way bid matching works, compared to if you only list your top choice. So don't single intentional preference. It's better imo to wait a year and retry formal if you don't love your new house. But at least show up to bid day and give it a try. Trust the system.
