www.toledoblade.com/Education/2018/01/23/Hazing-leads-to fraternity closure.html The above link is the recent article regarding the closure of Phi Kappa Psi Fraternity. An off-campus date party gone awry started Bowling Green State University’s investigation into Phi Kappa Psi, a probe that ultimately prompted the university to suspend the chapter through the 2020 fall semester, according to records released by BGSU. A member of Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority used a tree branch to hit at least one new member for failing to answer fraternity trivia questions correctly, and a new Phi Kappa Psi member grabbed a non-member, spun her against a tree, and kissed her without permission, according to the university records. The chapter was also accused of dehumanizing its new members and requiring them to set up tents and campfires at “Dawn Dance,” the off-campus party in September, 2017 that was the focus of the university’s investigation. The chapter was eventually found responsible for hazing its new members and for interfering with the investigation. A list of messages sent from one Phi Kappa Psi member implored members to “deny everything.” “I’m telling you guys because I like you guys no one rat on each other and the booze will literally be free for 3 weeks,” one message from the unnamed fraternity member read. The chapter received an interim suspension on Oct. 24, one day after the flurry of messages was sent. The chapter received its final suspension in December, and the suspension was upheld after the chapter appealed. The chapter can apply for reinstatement for the fall 2020 semester, although the national organization can apply starting in January, 2019, to bring the chapter back to campus for the fall 2019 semester. A University of Toledo spokesman said it has no fraternity or sorority chapters under suspension or investigation.
