www.wpsdlocal6.com/2018/05/09/murray-state-reportedly-suspends-fraternity-sorority-activities/ The link above is the recent article suspending all Greek Life activities at Murray State. Murray State University has suspended all social activities for fraternities and sororities indefinitely, the college’s newspaper reports. Citing a letter from MSU President Robert Davies and Vice President for Student Affairs Don Robertson, The Murray State News reports that the university is suspending all Greek Life social activities, starting May 9. The paper reports the suspension may extend into the upcoming fall semester. According to the letter, the decision is “based on national trends and (MSU’s) own review of reports involving Greek activities occurring with the implementation and enforcement of Greek social event policy.” The letter says the department must assess MSU’s policies and procedures. The letter says a university committee made up off representatives from the school’s Greek organizations will begin investigating those policies during the summer, continuing until it can make recommendations to the Office of Student Affairs. Local 6 has been told we must file an open records request to get a copy of the letter. We have embedded the Murray State News’ post about the letter below, where you can read the letter for yourself. Murray State University spokeswoman Adrienne King also sent Local 6 a statement, which is wording from a portion of — but not the entirety of — the letter. “Murray State University holds high standards regarding the conduct of our student organizations. Based on national trends, and our own review of reports involving Greek activities, and the implementation and enforcement of the Greek Social Event policy, the University has suspended all social activities within the Greek Life community, effective immediately. In order for us to promote and execute the core values of Greek Life – leadership, scholarship, service and philanthropy, and personal growth opportunities – we must pause to assess our current policies and procedures to determine what, if any, changes are needed.”
