I would start by asking you what you're looking for in a Fraternity. Why didn't you rush any earlier? Have a good response ready for when you do rush because you will naturally be asked. I would encourage you to rush and I wouldn't let so called "prestige" factor affect your decision. Being a Junior has some advantages: (i) you're older so you're hopefully more mature and know what you want more than your 18-year old self and (ii) you probably have a good idea what kinds of people you call friends. Find those fraternities. I would counsel you to use your age to your advantage going thru the rush process. Don't be arrogant but tell the actives as a Junior you can help the younger guys in the house who are in your major thru the process. You like to mentor and help people. But tell them why you want to join. Hopefully you want to join something bigger than you and make lifelong friends...and be more active on campus. But I agree some houses won't consider a Junior and you know what, that's fine. It's their house their rules. However, some houses will take Juniors and those are the only ones you should care about. All these "top tier" houses? Fine...I'm sure they're great, but I can assure some of the so called "lower tier" houses have a ton of good guys. Are they the best looking guys who have the hottest girls on campus? Maybe, maybe not. I suspect you may not fit that profile, too and that's fine. Find your group. Embrace that group and make it a great experience. I've said it here before. A so called "bottom tier" house at Miami is probably one of the higher rated houses at a school like OU or OSU.
