There are two big things that affect numbers: recruitment and retention. Some chapters are better at formal recruitment and take a large number of girls each year. DG Kappa and GPhi took the most girls over the last three years during formal recruitment. Retention is keeping the girls you get. You’ve seen the chapter numbers so you know who is at the top, but it’s not Kappa and GPhi. When you start comparing recruitment numbers and membership DZ and Theta have great retention for strong recruiting chapters, but AOII and ChiO also have strong member retention even though they are weaker recruiting chapters. That means even though they are smaller, once a girl joins she is less likely to drop. PhiSig is relatively less established than the other chapters at Miami, so they don’t recruit as well. The problem is that they also have a lot of drops.
