you have to maximize your options (aka rank every house you attended in pref whether its 1 or 3) to be guaranteed a bid. according to the cliff office stats, 98% of girls were matched with a bid. if they chose to reject it, that's their own decision. and yes, i'm sure hundreds of girls got their hearts broken. unfortunately not all 1,000 girls that go through can get a bid to alpha phi or whatever top house they wanted. the system is designed to give as many girls a bid as possible and give every chapter a relatively same sized pledge class.
