US Frats started and proliferated at regular state and private colleges during 1820s and 1830s. US Sororities began more slowly, with only 2 at one small private women's school in the 1850s, one at a tiny private school in 1867 then none until 1870. Women had also barely been admitted to ANY larger universities by 1870. There are currently more than double the # of USA frats to sororities. It is currently true most chapters of frats have smaller membership numbers than sororities.
