What probably happened was a combination of half the sororities had reached house total and the other half assumed you were going to one of those sororities so they didn't want to waste a bid. Maybe you said something innocuous about partying or cost of dues and they took it poorly. Either way if everything you say is true your pretty much guaranteed a bid if you go again
