The ONLY way to truly know a sorority is to get to know them through the recruitment process. Every house has some kind of "bad reputation." Try not to over think those. The whole idea of top tier houses defeats the purpose of these groups all together. Each sorority and fraternity offers friendship and a social life! There is no "best" one. Get to know them all, see who you connect with the most, and go from there! Being overly concerned about joining a top house will ruin the experience. In fact, top tier sororities to have reports the fewest truly happy girls simply because the sisterhood is not there since they are more focused on their outward image than actual sisterhood quality. Again, make sure you are connecting with the girls and see yourself identifying with the group as a whole! Good luck, be yourself, and you will find exactly where you belong! Xoxo
