Tau Upsilon Rho was the first "local" fraternity which began in November of 1949 and affiliated with Sigma Pi in 1952 and then was chartered in 1955. SAE was Sigma Epsilon Chi and was founded as a local to become an SAE chapter. Teke was the first National Fraternity chartered at Long Beach but Sigma Pi is the oldest fraternity having its beginning in 1949 as a local.
