You won’t have any problem as long as you can carry on a good conversation. The fraternities are all very different. You don’t need to be a “frat” kind of guy to be in a frat here, that’s more like IU or Purdue. Regular, fun, smart guys do great in rush. Tips: Go to every rush event that every fraternity has during the fall. There is free food and the best way to get to know the fraternities is to talk to guys who are actually in them. Don’t only go to one house during rush week. A lot of guys rush one frat only but there are only so many places so if 100 guys only go to Frat A but Frat A can only take 40 guys, 60 guys end up without a bid. However, if you rush Frat B and Frat D, you could end up getting a bid either place or both, so you don’t limit your options. Whatever houses you would be interested in being in, try to go three times during rush week (some have minimums so if you only go twice they can’t give you a bid). Be yourself because if you don’t then you have three and a half years of pretending to be someone else. Go to one or two parties from each frat if you can fall semester, see what you’re getting into there. I promise it’s nothing like the movies, much much more tame. Talk to fraternity guys in class. Sit next to them. Ask them about their rush events. Have fun!
