You didn't specify..but I'm going to respond as if you're rushing a sorority and not a frat. You should totally do it! From my experience (at least in my chapter), sophomores have no problem bonding with their own pledge class, and it's fun to see where you end up and who you've already met in your chapter! I'm not sure about all of the recruiting rules of each chapter, but because many, many BU girls don't join greek life until their sophomore year, I don't think you would be put at a disadvantage because you're one year older.
