Subject:
my advice to freshmen in fraternity spring rush

Poster Message:
I'll just start by saying I was completely obsessed with rankings at the beginning of my freshmen year - all I wanted was to be in a top fraternity. I'm not; I'm in what most would consider middle/lower tier, and my experiences have been great. The most important thing - and I think a lot of people in fraternities, both "top", "middle" and "bottom" would agree with me - is the people you meet. Make sure you genuinely like them, because they are who you're going to be calling "brother" for the rest of your college experience. And honestly, I don't think most people in fraternities really care about the rankings (at least I know the guys in mine don't worry about it too much), they care about having a good time with their brothers. Freshmen are the only ones who tend to really focus on the individual rankings. After that, you'll probably find you have friends and know people in a bunch of different fraternities, and realize that every greek society has great people. I think the older you get here at Emory, and the more people you meet from every fraternity, the less you find the rankings to actually matter. So, my advice to you is really take advantage of rush & don't focus too much on the rankings. Why trust crap you read on the internet when you can rush and see for yourself? That's the point of round 1! Go in with an open mind, it'll pay off. Best of luck. -Veteran of Spring Rush
