www.witn.com/content/news/Third-fraternity-shutting-down-at-ECU--475656593.html The above link is the recent article regarding the Closing of Sigma Alpha Epsilon (SAE) Fraternity. A third fraternity is shutting down at East Carolina University. In a statement issued Friday morning, ECU said that the national Sigma Alpha Epsilon (SAE) organization closed its ECU chapter effective last week, on February 23. SAE was placed on deferred suspension by ECU in the spring of 2017 for violations of the university and fraternity's hazing policy and other violations. ECU says it came to the attention of school leaders and national organization leaders that ECU members were not following the terms of its redevelopment plan. “ECU shares, with the national organizations, alumni and advisors, the commitment to holding organizations and students accountable for actions that do not meet expectations. We will continue our efforts to strengthen our campus fraternities, sororities and all student organizations as a key part of the student experience at ECU,” said Dr. Virginia Hardy, ECU vice chancellor for Student Affairs. The statement also says that any ECU investigations into individual behaviors will continue. This marks the third fraternity to close its doors at ECU since January 2018. Tau Kappa Epsilon and Delta Chi have also shut down, TKE for a period of four years and indefinitely for Delta Chi. ECU said in January that those two closures were not related.
