Every sorority will have drops and have some flux as new pledge classes come in and seniors depart. As for drops, the new member educator or "pledge mom" can create a pledge environment that is positive for new members or negative where some girls won't put up with bs. It is subjective for each girl. Some girls are more sensitive than others. Some pledge classes are wilder than others. New members need to prove their loyalty and willingness to learn about the sorority. Pledge moms need to prove this is a worthwhile experience for all the time and energy new members put in. It's supposed to be a two-way street; a quid pro quo experience. If new members do not agree with the pledging process, they drop. In the end, it's their loss and takes a spot another willing and ready girl would commit to in a heartbeat. Finding the balance between classes and pledging is hard. Freshman girls will get overwhelmed and more sensitive to criticism from their pledge mom and initiated sisters. Just as you hopefully kept an open mind during Recruitment, keep an open mind as a new member. You will not be the only new member struggling. Support each other and ask for help if need be. A sorority is supposed to foster success in each and every girl.
