Also I know a lot of people that moved out of roommates cause of conflicts...at least 5 people in my dorm. To be blunt, nothing at Duke will save you from being friendless. Not even having a roommate. Not only that, let's say you have no friends at Duke, you have to be confident enough to find your friends yourself. Because, your roommate may have a friend group that's not good fit for you...and it won't work anyway. Thats why I think people find their own groups, and you'll naturally find people that you click with, and your roommate will have little to do with this. All of my semesters at Duke my roommate and I had different social circles, communicated mostly in our rooms about random things. Yes, we would hang out together at times, but not all the time. And plus, there's a difference between real friendship and just hanging out with someone. From what I can breakdown, people find their groups, rush a social circle, and mostly don't hang out with other people at Duke. Since people are so cliquey this happens, and also if you want to meet new people later on, to be honest, it's hard, but having a roommate neither helps this, nor is likely to lead to many more friends. Everyone has to take their own initiatitive to hang with their friends...it's not going to happen with another person helping you out much.
