Has literally no impact. Most of the time roommates suck and all your friends have zero connection. From what I see roommates have very seperate, different social lives. That being said, it could help meet a few new people. For me, after O week my roommate and I had different friend groups, never hung out together, and only rarely did we overlap. You will literally have NO impact on your social life by taking a single, BUT you may have times where you miss out on a roommate experience...sometimes you can get a close bond hanging out with a roommate. And you have someone to chit chat with during throughout the day, whereas friends are more formal. But for the most part, a serious social life, it will having nothing to do with it. Yes, Roommates are risks indeed. Ultimately everyone has different social lives, frat circles, social groups, and having a roommate doesn't really help with that. I wish I didn't have a roommate. It contributed to zero friends, a lot of conflicts. I think a misconception a lot of Pfrosh have is how the social scene can work...it's not like you and your roommate really go and do everything together...sometimes you can, otherwise I feel like everyone has their own groups very independent of roommates. Ultimately rush fraternities and SLGS further separating roommates, and having literally zero connection.
