Yep it's superficial and really not worth it. I'm In what's considered a "middle tier" frat but rising and I couldn't be happier. I got a bid from a fraternity that is considered one of the "top tiers" but denied it because during rush their brothers looked very isolated from each other and cliquey. I'm not saying that's how they all are, but that's my experience with one of them. I'm so much more comfortable with the men I'm with now and honestly it feels absolutely awesome "moving up and rising" because we put all of the hard work in ourselves rather than joining one that already has that status
