It's a judgment tool. I think of it like sports teams. Everyone has their team that they're on or root for. Every season, there's rankings for those who do well and those who don't. But guess what? At the end of the day, it doesn't matter, because there's always next season. They only serve their purpose for those who care about it and want to make judgments based on the groups' performances (going to a certain formal, tailgates, date functions, etc). Then it all starts over.... It doesn't matter, but to those who care (chapter execs, social chairs, homecoming committee), it matters. Granted there's only a select few who care, so the remainder of us are just here for the anonymous judgment, gossip, and entertainment.
