It's smart to bid guys you already know that will accept, especially if they're freshmen. They become your best promoters to other freshmen and will bring around their friends who will most likely want to rush the same fraternity. I think if you wait until rush to give a guy who's been around all summer a bid, you have a great risk of losing him to another fraternity.
