From what I understand what happens with other sororities, if your AUNT our cousin or any other family member that is not your mom or grandmother was in a sorority and writes you a letter of rec, you are not promised a bid. You would be considered an "indirect legacy". The most you will benefit from that letter of recommendation is getting called back at least once. They have to call you back because they are required to since you're an indirect legacy but after that, they can drop you whenever they feel like it. (Source: I had a letter of rec to a sorority here from my aunt and thats what they told her)
