You have to be honest with yourself. While there are genuinely good people in every chapter, some do emphasize looks (with some allowance for legacies and strong connections). Those chapters recruit on a somewhat more superficial level. The problem is kind of that nobody wants to be a member of a club that would have them as a member. There's the argument "but I'm a great person!" but then you don't want to be a member of a house that's full of great people (or definitely could be, if people would stop dropping them because they're bottom tier) and recruits more on personality than model looks. Everyone comes into rush thinking that they belong in Zeta or KD or Theta or wherever. But the truth is, by joining a sorority, you're entering into a system that judges and sorts people based at least partly on how you look, among other factors that are superficial enough to get you through rush week. When people say "trust the process" I don't think they mean "trust that the greek system has your best interests at heart." I think they mean "trust that you will end up in a house that's appropriate for you & how you present yourself." We're not all Zetas. I know I'm not. People need to separate the superficial part of the dream of being greek from the reality that not everybody gets to be a special top tier unicorn (like I said, I know I'm not!). Sorry you're disappointed. Give it a chance though.
