it’s all a computerized system that actually decides the bids but it looks at the PNMs top choice and then sees where they are on the list... say the number each chapter can take is 40, then if you’re within the top 40 of the chapters list and you listed them as number one, you’ll get in for sure... BUT it also depends on how many people ranked “above you” by the chapter also decided to rank the sorority as number one. if you only ranked one sorority, the system technically considers you after everyone has their bids, which is why some people don’t get the bid even if they’re pretty high on the chapters list because everyone who ranks two sororities gets in to one, even if they’re lower on their second choice chapters list then you were, and you only listed that chapter. so yes, it’s very confusing, even to seniors who have recruited for 3 years and have been scoring and ranking PNMs for 3 years. if you really want to know how it works the office of fraternity and sorority life could probably answer your questions better than Greek rank.
