PNM'S DON"T CUT, SORORITIES DO: Your rankings are just rankings, and aren't necessarily going to reflect which sororities you are actually going back to. The sororities are making the decisions of who to ask back and who to release. When a house does not invite you back, your ranking of that house no longer matters; it is removed from your list. You will get back your low ranked houses WHEN some of the ones you rank highly drop you (WHEN, not IF), creating room on your schedule for the computer algorithm to try to fill. You will get as many invitations back as possible based on the allowed amount per round and the number of houses that have you on their invitation list. This is how pnm's don't "drop" houses and how their lower ranked houses keep coming back on their schedules. WHEN YOUR RANKINGS MATTER: Your rankings only come into play if more houses want to ask you back than are allowed for that round. In that case, the algorithm drops your lower ranked houses for you. BE PREPARED: For the majority of pnm's getting a full card back or getting back all their chosen houses, does not happen and should not be your expectation. PREF ROUND: If you are invited to a sorority's pref, then you are on their bid list somewhere. If you rank both your pref houses, you are guaranteed a bid to one of them, but not necessarily to your first choice. If you only put one of your two houses on your card, you are not guaranteed a bid. That's called suiciding (officially it's SIP for Single Intentional Preference) and it's either going to be that house for you or no bid at all. If you only get one pref invitation and you go there and then put them on your card, you know without a doubt you are getting that bid. HOW BID MATCHING WORKS: The pnm's rank their two houses and the sororities rank all their pnm's. The algorithm goes down a sorority's ranked bid list and tries to match with the pnm's who ranked that house as their 1st choice, then if necessary it goes through again and matches with pnm's who ranked that house 2nd. The process ends for that house at whatever point it matches to Quota. If a pnm is high enough on her 1st choice's bid list to match before they reach Quota, she gets that bid. If not, the algorithm will then try to match her with her 2nd choice house. If that house reaches Quota before matching with her, then she will get a bid as a Quota Addition to either house. The algorithm will choose for her based primarily on the pnm's choice, but also considers her place on the house's bid list as well as the number of Quota Additions to assign. Nobody knows who is a quota addition, it's just a bid like any other. This is how a pnm is guaranteed a bid if she ranks both her pref houses. If she suicides with one house and that house matches to Quota before they match with her, she is out of the process entirely at that point and not eligible for any bid at all.\n\n\n\n\n
