Plz read all of this. It’s long but I wish I would’ve known this before. Rush is hard. “Trust the process” doesn’t mean crap when all you can focus on is how sororities cut you but here’s my story and what i learned: I am someone from northwest arkansas; I had a 4.22 GPA in high school; I had over 500 community service hours; was the President, VP, Historian, Secretary of 4 different clubs; a 4 time varsity letterman. I have many connections through my church, school, and family. Still, first night I was cut by Kappa, Chi O, Pi Phi, KD and Zeta. Tri Delt cut me the next night. Because I wasn’t a legacy, was from a middle class family and didn’t go to a top school in NWA I was cut from the “Top Houses.” I’d always been told that being from NWA increased your chances of getting at least asked back to top tier sororities. plus I thought I had some awesome convos in the houses that cut me. I was truly crushed. I thought about pulling out of rush for a while and the whole “trust the process” was just eating away at me. I felt worthless and couldn’t figure out why these girls didn’t want me. Unfortunately, recruitment at the U of A is very competitive. For these top houses especially unless you are a legacy or financially can help out the chapter. LEGACY Note: Only Grandma, Mom & Sister count as legacies. Any other family member is considered a tie. Even sometimes just a grandma legacy isn’t enough. At the U of A, so many girls come with legacy affiliations but most Top Tier sororities will really only take legacy under consideration if your Grandma/Mom/Sister attended the U of A. During rush I talked to lots of PNMs that were crushed that a top tier house cut them and they were a legacy/double legacy/triple legacy. When I asked them where their family members went, they would say other schools or small schools. Houses will consider your legacy ties but SOOO many girls that come to the U of A are legacies that they couldn’t possibly take every single one plus other girls that they want. (My best friend had a sister who was Tri delt at a small college in southern arkansas and she rushed Tri Delt so it’s possible to go these houses with a legacy bond that’s not from U of A) Through all of these emotions and heartache I found an authentic and genuine house that wanted me for me. Not how much money my parents could give or what kind of school I went to. I did think about spring rush and sophomore rush BUT WHY WOULD YOU WANT A SORORITY THAT DOESNT WANT YOU THE FIRST TIME??? You deserve a sorority that wants you!!!! Remember that recruitment is just a big numbers game. These sororities have to go from 1400 or however many to 100ish girls. That means they have to cut 1300 girls throughout the week. You are all beautiful and valued and truly your letters DO NOT define you. The whole top tier bottom tier thing is legitimately the most stupid thing. All of the sororities at the U of A are awesome. There isn’t just one sorority that is awful (TRULY). This process isn’t going to be perfect or easy. It’s hard and long and not fun at times but if you remember how valued and amazing you are, it will be okay. There are so many ranks on here but remember that the only rank that matters is the one that matters to you and what you love and want. I heard so many girls during rush say that they cut top tier houses because they just didn’t like them as much. THATS OKAY. Don’t listen to the ranks, go where you want to go!
