Most schools take the number of sororities and the number of girls attending pref and divide them evenly on bid day. So 10 chapters and 1000 pnms means each pledge class has 100 girls. Variable quota is based on return and retention rates for each sororities. So sororities that have higher return rates will take less girls than a less popular chapter that has trouble with girls dropping or not placing them high on the bid list. So if ChiO has 102 and DG has 178 supposedly 76 girls will drop DG or never show up for bid day which would then make all the sororities more even. Panhellenic controls this 100% and does not share their data with the sororities other than to tell them the number of girls they have to cut each day and the number they can extend a bid to. So when ChiO and Kappa had to cut 1200+ girls the first day that was all on Panhellenic. In comparison DG didn’t have to cut any girls the first day because so many pnms ranked them last.
