You'll find a house. There are more spots available than girls going through recruitment at UH, it's not very competitive here. We have quotas and its 25-30 depending on the chapter. Dues are due every semester (ranging from $700-$1000, depends on the sorority) but they have payment plans. Phi Mu might not so inquire about that. You have mandatory events like meetings every Monday, philanthropy events, stuff that's obviously expected. But outside of the few mandatory events, you don't have to be very active. But what's the point of paying all that money if you aren't going to participate? You get what you put in and if you're only going to mandatory events it will just be a waste of money. The bonds of sisterhood are what separates us from a random club, and it's what makes that big price tag worth it. And you only get that by being active within the greek community and your chapter. If you take the time to look and talk to our chapters you'll see that we are all very diverse. This is Houston, not Alabama or somewhere. We have members of all races, sizes, economic backgrounds, religions, etc. Some are more diverse than others (SK and PM are more diverse than say Zeta and AXO for example). But we choose girls for their personality, not their looks. The same reason why rec letters arent a big deal here, we have a small greek life so we can't afford to be picky about silly things. It's not like we're picking from 1200 pnms, it's more like 200. So just do it!
