it is expensive, if you honestly know you can't afford it don't rush, because you will miss out on a ton of the first week events to meet other freshman, and you could be taking a spot in a house when houses can only give so many bids. The first quarter is the most, having to pay for your badge/ member fees. After the initial quarter I would estimate it's ~$1,000+ a quarter, besides your dues there are a ton of additional expenses to consider, like clothing and items with your letters, date party outfits and gifts for your family. Philanthropy events and their fundraisers to buy food/shirts for. There are a lot of hidden fees for missing events or being late. I probably had $200 of fines last year and most of them were mistakes that I had an excuse for (work/doctor) and when I brought up the fines, nobody could "unfine" me. I like being in a sorority but if I had to pay for it myself I don't know how I could afford it, even if I had a job! Also there are not a lot of scholarships, something I wish I had known. I think joining Greek life has been an incredible experience and I love the people I've met but in just trying to be honest about the financial aspect!
