chio definitely knows how to make a good show. they are clean, crisp, have strong female vocals that aren’t overpowered by basses and tenures, and they bring the energy. that list could keep going... BUT although they have a PUT TOGETHER show, they tend to loose me in the depth of their themes every time. they always go for a dystopia of some sort with too thick of plot with too many characters that my brain is working too hard to figure out what’s actually happening. this years chio sig chi theme starts off with the reality of quarantine and the main characters loneliness which inspires his desire to break records, then suddenly there’s a town of people who are doing that with him, and i’m not even sure what records they were breaking besides the flash mob. i’m not sure if the conflict resolution here is the records or his journey of self. if I could follow their show easier I could see it placing better over other houses. yet, chio always knows how to end up on top so I won’t be surprised if they still manage to get there despite this.
