wvmetronews.com/2018/09/24/second-fraternity-officially-severs-ties-with-wvu/ Theta Chi’s Alpha Kappa chapter will relinquish its association with West Virginia University, according to a media release from the fraternity. They will join the Delta chapter of Phi Sigma Kappa in supporting the formation of an independent interfraternity council in Morgantown. Phi Sigma Kappa was among four fraternities who initially sent letters to West Virginia University administrators last month announcing their intention to dissociate. These letters declaring dissociation were in direct response to WVU’s ‘Reaching the Summit’ plan, unveiled over the summer. The plan instituted a series of new rules and guidelines centered around student health and safety. Several of the fraternities involved in dissociation efforts have claimed individual chapters and/or Greek organizations as a whole are being “singled out.” Theta Chi’s Alpha Kappa chapter was not initially among the four to inform the university of their decision last month. They were officially recognized by WVU, but remained under social restriction following last February’s moratorium on Greek Life social activities in the wake of behavioral concerns brought forth by university administrators. WAJR previously reported those social restrictions were set to expire Oct. 1, 2018. Phi Sigma Kappa initially rescinded their letter to dissociate shortly after sending it, during the first week of the fall semester. The status of Kappa Alpha Order, Alpha Sigma Phi, and Sigma Chi remain unclear at this time. All sent letters in August announcing their intent to dissociate. Kappa Alpha Order and Sigma Chi do not appear to have rescinded their initial letters. Sigma Chi’s national office did not support the move last month, and placed the chapter on indefinite suspension. Kappa Alpha’s national office told WAJR in August that they remain supportive of their chapter’s decision. Alpha Sigma Phi rescinded their dissociation letter in mid-August, shortly after the existence of the letter was revealed publicly.
