<strong>Subject:</strong><br />ranking and why they suck<br /><br /> Poster Message:
I am not going to rant or talk about why it is stupid to judge a group of 60+ guys or 200+ girls collectively because that point has been talked to death and any further discussion will probably cause you to tune out and think I'm some guy/girl who's butthurt their organization is ranked "bottom". Instead I just wanted to talk statistically about what our "ranks" mean. For arguments sake, let's say a typical fraternity starts with 60 guys in the fall and recruits 15 new guys every semester. That means that 20% of everyone in a fraternity in any given semester is new. And since each class is ~15 guys, that means they lose ~30 guys at the end of each year, which at that point will be not only a huge chunk of the active members, but will only leave the fraternity with MAYBE A LITTLE MORE THAN HALF OF THE ORIGINAL GUYS (~60%). Yet rankings are rarely updated and in terms of human opinions, it is hard to change the way someone sees a group once they have made up their mind on how they see them. That being said, I think I have a solution on how to make a new system that works for everyone and makes sure our pointless ranks are 100% accurate! The solution is to ACTUALLY MEET each of these groups of people and GET TO KNOW who they are before making a decision, and then NOT PERPETUATING A STEREOTYPE after you have made up your mind about them so that other people get to meet them too and FORM THEIR OWN OPINIONS as well. I know, crazy right?
