You are correct about the gpa. Unless you are above a 3.0 you will be knocked off most sorority lists in the first round of cuts. If you last after that cut, you need to really shine because you are competing with a lot of pretty and or smart confident girls. However, I do think that you need to focus on where is best for you and not get hung up on “tiers”. All it determines is who you partner/socialize with. Otherwise, that term means absolutely nothing. I’m curious why you didn’t like the house you got? Were you basing it on it’s tier? When I was pledging last year, I was surprised to see that some of the so called lower tiers dropped me because in my own mind I thought I was better than them and they would be lucky to have me. It made me realize looking back that those girls were being true to themselves and weren’t interested because I would not fit in and looking back now I can really appreciate that and the process. I ended up in a sorority I hadn’t thought about initially and almost dropped out but I’m so glad I didn’t because just like you said- you can’t be judged on a 15 min conversation, it works both ways and I ended up really happy.
