Usually in the fall semester, a few of the sororities will have open houses, where you can go on a tour of the sorority house and meet some of the sisters. I would definitely use this opportunity to ask questions about the sorority chapter, their philanthropy, and events in the Spring. My best advice would be to go into formal recruitment with an open mind, however. My best friend (who ended up becoming one of my sisters when we accepted bids from the same sorority) and I went on a few open house tours last fall when we were freshman. She thought that one of the sororities was the perfect fit for her, but then she realized that our sorority was where she wanted to be after the 3rd round of formal recruitment.
