when i was rushing my gamma chi discouraged us from suiciding to the point where she didn't even wanna talk about it as a possibility and what would happen. if you're going to 2 houses tonight and you don't love both, keep an open mind during pref. the thing is, if you only put 1 house down it can actually decrease your chances of getting your #1 house because there's no chance you'd be added as a quota addition if you don't make their first bid list. honestly, i think there are plenty of cases every year where it's fully valid to only write down 1 house but that's something to consider (also you've only met like 8 people from every house so keep that in mind). if you write down 1 house, you have to be on their first bid list. if you write down 2 and you're not at the top of either's lists, you could still theoretically get your top house because you're guaranteed a bid somewhere. obviously, if you're 100% certain you'd drop the #2 house on bid day (which i wouldn't encourage but it is what it is sometimes rush goes weirdly) and had horrible conversations all week, it can make sense to only write 1 and not take a spot from someone else. if you only write down 1 house, you can do COB whereas if you drop you have to wait until next january if you want to re-rush. but, again, writing down 1 house can decrease the chances you get your top house. my main advice is just to think through your options carefully and look at the other girls at pref night at both houses. good luck tonight and try not to take any cuts super personally - after a certain point, it really is a numbers game.
