off campus living

by: Wondering

I will be looking for a place to live after Spring Break. My question is for those of you who have lived off campuses: what is the best area to live in and who has had a landlord that they really liked a lot. I am thinking about the Cotton District and who love any suggestions.

Dan Camp owns basically everything in the Cotton District so you have little choice over your landlord. We never had any issues and someone always responded quickly to house issues.

I passed on the CD and settled for just outside of it and haven't regretted it one bit! It's quieter and you never have to park far from your apt/townhome. A short 5 minute walk to the bars. It's worth looking into areas right outside to save some money and sanity when you have to study on a Thursday night!

Is it hard to get an apartment in this area? I read on Dan Camp's website that they don't make a waiting list and that they wouldn't know until after SB which properties would be available. Anyone have any hints about the best way to get a rental property in Cotton District?

Most people find people in their sorority or fraternity who live there and tell them they want their place next year (only if they are moving of course). Then you go with them in the fall to Dan Camp's office and they sign something saying you would be good people to rent the place. That's how we got our place and how several of my friends got theirs.

It's not hard to get A place, but the nicer yet affordable ones go first. I would google Starkville Apts and/or drive around and see where signs are posted. I agree with the second post. I live by the camphouse and love it. 5 minute walk to bars but I can go to sleep without hearing music till 12-1.
