rush

I have a HS GPA of 2.6. I am in hopes my senior year grades will pull my GPA up. It should as I have all a's as of now. What chances do I have of rushing a good sorority with anywhere from a 2.8-3.0?

3.0 you'll be okay. Anything less you will likely be cut unless you have extremely strong ties or you are a super legacy. I think pi phi is the only house that will take 2.8/2.9 but that was last year they might have changed it now. Almost every girl that came in with less than a 3.0 was cut. It sucks but that's the way it goes. It's not that hard to do well in highschool, you should've taken it more seriously if you wanted to have fun later on in life. Anyways you could always rush second semester or next year.

Not true about Pi Phi. They won't take under a 3.0 unless it's someone they really want. They didn't take any grade risks last year, but DDD took 11.

I know for a fact that even Chi O will take someone with a 2.5 GPA. But she had strong connections within the chapter and was a pageant girl.

During rush they had a big sign under scholarship that said their gpa requirement was a 2.9 or 2.8 (can't remember) so yeah they do take girls under. Every other sign even adpis said a 3.0. It's not a bad thing, in my opinion it was smart. They got some really good and gorgeous girls that were passed up because their low gpa. And I'm not saying they take everyone with a low gpa, they obviously have to like and want the girl too...but they do take more low gpas than any other house.

With below a 3.0, more than likely you will be cut from every house but Zeta Tau Alpha and Alpha Delta Pi. I know many girls who went through rush in fall of 2015 that had below a 3.0 and after the go greek days those were the only houses that kept them. But if you are a legacy or have strong ties to a chapter you have a higher chance of getting in.

No top house will take you by any means. Not even the best connections in the world. Top houses take grades super seriously and compete for the best gpa. Lower houses usually don't take grade risks either unless you are amazing in every other possible but even adpis grade standard is a 3.0. You could go through rush and see what happens but you have a better chance with spring rush or sophomore year

top houses will take some girls with a 2.75 to 3.0 but only ones with strong connections such as an in house sister. I know first hand!!! My high school gpa was a 2.8 and my current college gpa is a 3.2. High school grades are not always indicative of college performance.

Yes and you are the exception to the rule but typically girls below a 3.0 have no chance. Obviously top houses make 1 or 2 exceptions but usually it's a no.

If you are really committed to rushing I would work ur butt off and aim for no less than a 4.0. I calculated and if you got a 4.0 both semesters of senior year you could get ur gpa up pretty close to a 3.0. If you have any ap classes and can get higher than a 4.0 then you would be set. Second get involved as much as you can. Join clubs and volunteer as much as possible! Do things that will off set ur bad gpa. Get really amazing rec letters from strong alumni. This will help you the most. Lastly you have to do amazing during rush. You need to look on point and be as sociable as possible. Houses want cute and fun girls. If you are awkward during rush and also have a bad gpa there is no chance. Also make connections if you can. Try and stay with girls already in sororities for derby days or something. It's going to be very time consuming and hard work but being in a sorority is worth it. Go into rush with a completely open mind. Don't expect a top house but honestly all houses are good in their own way. If you go through rush and you get cut then there is always spring rush and rushing sophomore year but there is no harm in trying! I was in ur shoes last year. Start of senior year I had a 2.8 and was freaking out but by the end I had almost a 3.2. I went through all these steps and got a top house and was only cut by 2 houses all together during rush.

If you have below a 3.0 coming out of high school I would wait to rush until the fall semester of your sophomore year so you can get your GPA up. Every single house will cut a girl with below a 3.0 unless there is a serious exception, which 99% of the time is not the case.

With my grades and how wild I was up until 11th grade, I am not sure if I should even try!

If YOU want to, you should apply. When getting recs, include a little explanation to them about why your grades are low but how hard you're currently looking. Or you can wait till sophomore year when they take your college GPA into consideration. Just make a decision you are happy with! Good luck!!

Well then.. if you're going to bring it up then maybe you're right. A great sorority woman has confidence and a desire to better herself. If you fall into this category then I think you should go through with rush. But if you don't think you can pull up your grades or that your reputation will hinder your chances then maybe you shouldn't. Rush teaches you how to face rejection. It's all in how you take that rejection and grow from it that will help you in the real world.

It depends. If a lot of people from your high school or town attend MSU then yes your old reputation could affect your recruitment. If you don't know people there then its shouldn't affect you.
