top tier
by: OkWhat makes a house "top tier"? I've seen gorgeous girls in all houses so I know it must not be based on looks but I don't know much about Greek life at this point so what makes one sorority better than another?

That as why you are neither a phi mu or involved in a top house like phi mu or the others. You have no class.

I'm sorry but .5 is a big difference. There is a HUGE difference between a 2.5 and a 3.0.

Just FYI no sorority had a gpa under a 3.0 . Sorry but not a huge hooray between a 3.38, 3.52, 3.60 and 3.8.

Gee girl, I wonder what your GPA is? Since you are so concerned about the differences between them, what is yours? A 3.32 is nothing terrible. A 3.8 is fabulous! I'll bet the 3.32 and the 3.8 girls are still friends and admire things about each other. Both averages will secure different jobs. Both will contribute. What can you contribute? Anything?

In order of significance:
1) Tradition - it's extremely hard to convince anyone you are a top house if you don't have decades of pull for the top girls and all the alumni support ($) that comes with being top house. This also means you have tons of legacies to pick from that grew up in good families hearing about your house.
2) Leadership - it's not enough to just have girls involved in various organizations. Top houses consistently have girls running those organizations, especially when it comes down to elected positions. Top houses also have almost every member involved in something outside of the sorority. It's not enough to have a hand full of involved girls to be considered an involved sorority.
3) Personality or Socialness - this does not have to mean social as in party girls. But top houses need to be seen everywhere and be able to make friends everywhere. The girls have to be able to rush well to keep bringing in good PC's. So even though every group has rude girls or mean girls or awkward girls, overall, a top house has girls that can talk to you and make a good impression.
4) GPA - ranked below social because no one will join your house for its GPA if you can't make them like you through conversation first. But GPA is a good indicator of how hard the girls in a sorority work and how well rounded they are.

5) Competitive - you can still be nice and care about winning. Because top houses bring their A game to every philanthropy, every event, every intramural game, etc regardless of if you get anything for it. Working hard at these events and consistently placing or winning is important because it shows that the girls care about their reputation and know how to work together well. Anyone who's been a part of LimeLight, Derby Days, Watermelon Fest, etc. knows how hard every girls works. Whether you are a dancer, an artist, help with set/costumes/props, show up to cheer, or get coffee for the girls pulling the all nighters, top houses work together to do well in everything.
6) Looks - it's not as important as a lot of things, but chances are if their are 2 groups both succeeding at things 1-5 equally, the one that is overall prettier while succeeding will probably have a better rep. I don't like that, but that's America for you. Although I will say, some of the best and most respected members of my house are not beauty queens and they do just as much, if not more, to keep our rep up than the girls guys fight over to ask to their formals.

This is the dumbest response to a post I have ever read! Everyone knows phi mu is very involved , extremely popular, and yes, wins.their gpa is about .5 from ours! I am a kd and can admit that.....why can't you?
