How's this drama? Can you answer?

I will answer without (I hope) starting any drama. First of all my older sister was a member of an MSU sorority from 2008-2012. This information is what I was told by her.

Years ago, say early 2000's there were few Greeks on the MSU Homecoming Court. In order to have some representation on the court the sororities began to work together and nominated girls "together". In the fall of 2008, DG decided to do their own thing and nominate one DG for each maid and Queen. (At some point just prior to this the DGs at State and Ole Miss attended a presentation on "marketing" their name. I know this because I had a DG cousin at Ole Miss. They were taught how to run successful elections on a large campus among other things.). DG was fairly successful that first fall and decided to continue the process each year since. In 2009 the other sororities, after seeing DG's success began to run their own individual members for each maid and Queen. When this happened it allowed DG to completely dominate the elections and they had 4 maids and a Queen for 3 years in a row - 2009, 2010, and 2011. After these 3 years the other sororities decided it was more productive for them to work together as they had before 2009 on Homecoming elections. So in 2011 everyone except DG began working as a group during Homecoming elections. The money each sorority would normally use for campaign materials was instead donated to a different charity each year.

It is my understanding that DG is given the opportunity each year to participate with the other groups. DG sees it as block voting and everyone working against them. The other 7 groups see it as a way of working together and having a more inclusive homecoming court.

I wish the University would take control and allow each group to run only ONE or maybe TWO members for the court or Queen and have the athletes pick one maid for each class. A court like that would be representative of the student body as a whole.

Homecoming was changed for next year with a committee choosing the representatives for court and deciding who should be put up for Queen like Miss MSU and Mr. MSU except with a different group of people. Only the queen will be voted on.

If true that is great news!! I'm sure politics could play some part in the maids chosen but it has to be better than the current mess! Cannot wait to see a court that truly represents our diverse University!

The above information isn't false. The only thing I'd like to clarify is that the very first year the groups switched to not running their own girls all the presidents met without the DG president and we were later told (I wasn't here, my sister told me) it was either run in the block vote or be against every other sorority. At the time, the DG advisors (that's who's making all the decision, not the actual members) felt that a block vote would for sure keep anyone not greek from ever making the court, and that wasn't a fair representation. If the sororities block voted an independent would probably never be voted on. So they told us we were running our own girls. It was never meant to be an us against them thing, it just got blown way out proportion and people saw it as an attack and backing out of greek unity. There are a lot of DG's that wish we didn't run our own girls just because of the crap we get for it, when we were never asked what we wanted to do (I did join the chapter by this point). But, we aren't going to abandon our girls once nominated either. I personally, and I know PLENTY of girl in every sorority who would agree, wish we voted like Ole Miss or Auburn, where there is a committee and everyone can run X number of girls. It would kill the drama and make election day less of a heIl for everyone.

I hate seeing anything that says our chapter doesn't support greek unity because it just isn't true. We run our own girls but we have just as many friends in other houses and go all out to support every kind of philanthropy possible, even the year the sororities boycotted our Anchor Games over homecoming. Reality is the girls in DG are just like everyone else, and don't always love what our advisors do. We also donate the campaign funds to charity, and we aren't all do or die competitive, and we have friends in every other sorority. Anyone who hates on the whole chapter because of homecoming probably doesn't have any friends in the chapter, and honestly, there is a better use of time than campaigning for homecoming and being upset over it. Just some thoughts from someone who has seen it from the inside for a few years.

This may be true for you individually but there is a rouge dg, an alumni, or a mother that comes on here and totally bashes the other groups. Yet, DG is made to sound perfect. Then, when a person defends their group, dg gets very accusatory and blasts them for defending themselves. What does dg think a group will do? Just let them continually bash and bash? It's gotten way out of hand!

I am not a DG so I really don't care but how can you accuse one group of the craziness of this site? There is no way you KNOW the person posting those things is a DG. This entire thread was very civil until you made an unnecessary comment.

In a way I have always felt bad because so many individual DGs I know never agreed with decisions their advisors made but love their chapter and sisters enough to support them. I've always been thankful my chapter is allowed to make our own decisions with only guidance from our advisors.

Enough on this subject.

yes, let's bash over 300 girls because there is slight possibility that rude comments posted are coming form someone who is directly or indirectly associated with dg. if you're mad it's happening to your sorority, then don't do the same thing to another. we have no idea who says what, if they are actives, if they are even greek, or if they even go to this school. trolls are everywhere, so don't fan the flames when you could rise above it and be supportive of everyone. you're part of the reason it's out of hand.

Bottom line
No Greek unity only out for themselves
Doesn't matter that alumna make decisions! That's even worse!
