With the above said. It seems the best way to ensure a win is to have the entire chapter but a ridiculous amount of cans. Looks good for LXA for that amount of cans donated, but the focus should be on the different games and their own members get the donations. Just my two cents. But congrats to every house who placed in things!

Sounds like it is a real competition then if DG donated the most cans and won the games but still didn't win. That's how other philanthopy competitions are done to my knowledge. Good for everyone, sounds like it was really close. I heard it was a record amount and that's amazing.

So it's a problem that sororities are requiring high numbers therefore feeding even more people that don't have food? This is an actual point of concern for you?

Let's be honest. All MSU fraternities and sororities are leaders in their donations to their respective philanthropies so acting as though they don't want to help people is just dumb. Requiring members to bring a specific number of cans JUST for the sake of winning a competition is WRONG. Requiring over 100 cans per member for a win is pathetic.

Don't even pull that "is that really a point of concern" junk. It is extremely wonderful how many families will have food because of the sororities and Lambda Chi through watermelon fest. The point of the person above you is basically....it's sad that the members are forced to buy an insane amount of cans to win. Members should want to buy cans, donate time, etc not spend over $100 to help their house win a trophy. Maybe a shift to service instead of donations.

If the sororities actually went door to door collecting the food it might be different. Going to Walmart and buying $100 of canned food just to win a trophy is bad. Typically helping others involves sacrifice the only sacrifice being made when the food is bought might be skipping a few nights at the Bin or not having a new gameday dress. I'm just going to go ahead and say it, the groups that require large amounts of donated food just to win are DG, KD, and Phi Mu. Those were the 3 who were super close on can donations this year and last year. Other groups may require a smaller amount per member but it is obviously not an amount "for a win". It's a smaller amount done with a philanthropic spirit!

come on, everyone knows who the three groups are so don't act like she shared info that isn't readily known. Your entire statement is simply trying to rationalize the fact that your group collects cans to win a trophy. I will just say that I am very thankful that my group takes an entirely different approach to philanthropic work.

And I'm proud that mine gave so many cans to feed so many people. Stop acting like you're a better person because your smaller contribution was done with a bigger heart.

But I had a sister in one of the three mentioned houses that was told "bring 100 cans or you will be fined for each can you don't bring" and she was fined....for 10 cans.... So it was a requirement for her house, not a suggestion. The overall point is that maybe a new aspect can be added....such as volunteering at the places where the food is delivered. Or making it illegal for houses to fine girls who don't bring the required amount. It's amazing to say MSU Panhellenic helped LXA donate 107,000 lbs of cans, but the ways some of it is done is not the best. That's all anyone is saying.

Seriously?? You actually have the audacity to call out my sorority for not being crazed about your philanthropy event?? I mean thank you for your participation in Limelight, but if you'll notice we don't go around bashing the groups that put less effort into their routines. HOW CLASSLESS. When you have a philanthropy event that means something competition wise and isn't a shallow contest between who can spend the most money on cans, that shallow girls buy into, then maybe you'll get some respect.

Please stop! This was NOT a Lambda Chi that wrote this. I can't believe you don't see that, but here's why:
1. This event - and this thread - was almost two months ago. Completely written and commented on by sororities. If Lambda Chi was ever going to make a comment clarifying the scoring and making comments, it would have already happened.
2. If a Lambda Chi was going to make the effort to comment, you can be sure he would know EXACTLY how it was scored. There would be no "I think" or "it's either".
3. Lambda Chi knows - and is appreciative of - all EIGHT sororities that participate in their events. This entire thread is apparently just insulting comments thrown among 4 groups. A real Lambda Chi would have recognized that all chapters contribute.

I LOVE working for my chapter's philanthropy. I enjoy participating in the competitions and it's fun when we win. But, honestly winning a competition doesn't make my experience within my sorority better. My sisters are the reason I love my sorority. It's an amazing feeling. I don't gauge my appreciation of my sorority on the number of "wins" we've had that year. I'm so sorry that everyone can't experience that.
