Why would this happen?

I had a friend that got an early bud to sigma chi in 2019. He pledged but stayed in trouble and made really bad grades. Sigma chi dropped him. How can they do this if he was initiated?

Being a pledge is not the same as being an initiated brother and you will get dropped before initiation for exactly what you just described.

The guy I’m talking about was initiated. He was kicked out after sophomore year.

Yeah, a chapter has the right to get rid of troublemakers. The exec can do a membership review and make that decision. It can happen in any fraternity.
