Reasons for dropping
by: pnm
I saw this on another post. Is this really the retention of houses from fall 2021 to spring 2022? Why do so many drop from a few of the houses? I thought all houses are good at state. Do some have a ton of actives graduate in the fall instead of spring?
F21 - S22 = dropped
260 - 204 = -56 PBP w/ 11 S22 bids = -67
287 - 250 = -37 ZTA w/ 6 S22 bids = -43
290 - 263 = -27 PM
99 - 80 = -19 AXO w/ 4 S22 bids = -23
267 - 247 = -20 DDD
300 - 281 = -19 ADP
319 - 310 = -9 DG
344 - 335 = -9 XO
307 - 300 = -7 KD

People graduate in December all the time. The amounts will vary from house to house every year depending on the mix of members and their circumstances, so there will be a December graduation surge in any house from time to time. There will also be studies abroad and internships affecting spring membership differences. And yes, there are always a few drops, which is inevitable with so many members in a house, but dropping is most often a reflection of an individual member's situation with family, health (mental and otherwise), grades, transfering out, or their finances, and not a sorority retention issue other than some people find that Greek life didn't meet their expectations. The sorority experience in each house is pretty much the same across the board with far more similarities than differences. Every house is good at state.

Losing 10-20 girls before May is normal due to graduation, internship, or even transferring. But losing 40-70 highlights an internal problem. Unfortunately, one or more different houses face it every year but they usually participate in spring recruitment to bring up house total. Any girl at state is lucky to join any house at MSU- they are all supportive of their members and provide great leadership and service opportunities, as well as sincere friendships.

The more out of state students the more drops. They join for the SEC sorority experience and don’t care about having legacy status for their kids lost didn’t have parents that were greek or even college educated. They are usually shocked that there are rules and standards and obligations that come along with it they joined for parties and pictures.

Will also say that seniors graduating in spring will go ahead and duck out after fall semester. They've seen and done it all and are focusing on the next phase of their lives.
