Thoughts on new recruiting method

by: U

After KD had their 40 snap bid recruitment in 2020, their overall view on campus really dropped. But they saved themselves in 2021 because of their recruitment chair. She followed and commented on just about every pnm on instagram, making them view KD highly and feel wanted by them. I’ve noticed that this year, DG, ADPi, and DDD are doing similar things, with their recruitment chairs interacting with just about every girl, even those their chapter might not be interested in. Very interested to see how this effects recruitment. PNMs and Actives, do you feel like it’s excessive or do you like this? Honestly just a curious pan member.

The more interaction the better

I think some sororities see this as something other sororities do to create a false sense of security. I think it should be more about intentionality of interactions and not quantity especially since PNMs take everything to heart. It really sucks when you think a group loves you and then you get cut first round, which a lot of these sororities that comment a lot on insta are doing.

Personally it just makes me more excited to meet everyone during recruitment

It makes you more excited to meet everyone because you think those are the ones interested in you.

I wish they would only do this with girls in their top 40%-50% and not ALL of the pnms.

I think there’s 2 key things no one has mentioned. 1) Girls that chapters DO want are cut every year. Even girls that are favs of rush team members. It’s hard to say in spring semester or over the summer before all the recs come in/whole chapter is back exactly which girls that people DO love will survive the first 2 days of cuts. And after that, there isn’t a single girl that people don’t want in the chapter left, so the girls cut are very much liked and wanted even if they end up being a cut at the end of the week. That’s why voting takes so long. We literally fight over it because someone is mad about every cut at that point. 2) You never know how rush will pan out. Why give a girl the impression you aren’t interested or worse, have PNMs feel unwanted because no one comments on their stuff and other girls get dozens, when you could just start positive? A comment is not a promise. It’s a courtesy IMO.

I agree that it makes a pnm feel wanted and gives your chapter a really positive view, HOWEVER, it seems a little fake when people are commenting stuff like “I love you so much” or “I am in love with you” when it’s a girl that they’ve never met. There’s a fine line between being kind and sweet and trying to almost dirty rush. And yes, it also does make some girls feel left out if no one comments on their posts, hence the reason IMO that this sort of commenting shouldn’t be allowed in the couple of months leading up to rush. The girls coming in are so impressionable and I think they should go through rush to find their home, not decide it because of who comments on insta.

I've been so scared to reply back on posts or to actives sending me dms. I thought that was considered dirty rushing and didn't want to get into trouble.
Is it OK to reply back? Like pan won't block them for being able to offer me a bid??

Go ahead and send a reply. Pnm's aren't the ones who dirty rush, that is only something sororities do and are the ones to get in trouble if so. Don't worry about it. Blocking a house from giving bids to anyone does not happen.
