Costs Per Semester

by: Allie

I looked at the PDF of the costs for each sorority, but I found it a bit confusing. About how much do people spend on each sorority per semester? Definitely gonna have to help my parents out.

The pan page clearly state semester costs and its breakdown.
New member costs range from $4000-$5600.
Active member costs who do not live in the house range from $4000-$5300.
Obviously, active member costs who live in house are more because it includes housing, and its listed on the pan page just like all the others.
Look it up.

You will also be paying for random things like shirts and themed outfits, dresses for events, etc but you could also borrow most of that stuff from friends.
Get your party trunk filled with "supplies" now so you aren't scrambling later.

That’s actually a great idea… do you have any must haves for parties?

Another thing—
At orientation they said something along the lines of if you drop you still have to pay dues. this was confusing and I can’t find out anywhere if this is true or not.

Make sure you read the contract before you sign it. Each house is different. Some you are financially obligated for the year even if you drop out before initiation. Some it's semester to semester. But you won't know until after you receive the bid from a house.
Too many girls and their family go in without realizing the financial commitment and end up dropping.

For any pnm reading this: If you or your parents don't have $6k to pay for sorority dues, fees, and fun extras please don't go through recruitment "just to see" because you are likely taking a spot in a house away from another girl.
You can make a ton of new friends and get involved through clubs and intramurals.
Now is the time to have a serious conversation with your parents. Being in a sorority is one of the best things I've ever done in college, but it's not for everyone.
