Legacies in Sororities

Legacies are really important at the “traditional top houses” but that definitely doesn’t mean everyone is a legacy. Anyone saying otherwise is trying to get you to ignore those houses in favor of theirs. I will only speak for DG, but our MCs are typically 1/3 legacies and 2/3 non legacies. We don’t want a chapter of just legacies. It’s actually super competitive among our legacies to get one of those spots because we could fill more than an entire class with legacies but we actively avoid doing that. Like someone mentioned above, the new policy from Nationals is eliminating legacy consideration (a couple other sororities have already announced this as well and I’m sure they will all end legacy status at some point), but since this is the first year I don’t know how it will affect rush. I’m sure legacies will still be looked at extra hard out of respect, but there won’t be an official policy or automatic invite to the second round as a courtesy.

Speaking as a phi mu, legacies are very important. You cannot speak as an expert for these sororities. I mean, you have no idea what is expected in each group as you are not a member of all. You cannot know all of the rules and executive decisions because of that. You are what we call a know it all.
