HOUSE RANKS 6/4/20

by:

hi all, in light of all the houses at MSU sharing solidarity with whats going on in the country right now I thought it's time to discuss reperesentation of black and brown women on their instagrams. Today I am ranking all of the houses based on how diverse their posts are. I will not be including swipe through albums or instagram stories. Women of color should not have to swipe through to find someone in a house that looks like them. This is a call out to all chapters. This is a place pnms can refer to if looking to join a sisterhood of diverse women.

1. Pi Phi, 3 posts of black/brown members all within 3 months of eachother -Feb 5/Dec 22 2019/ Nov 29 2019
2. KD, last post of a black/brown member -May 25
3. ADPi,last post of a black/brown member- May 15
4. Phi Mu, last post of a black/brown member- Feb 17
5. DG, last post of black/brown member- Jan 7, 2019
6. DDD, last post of black/brown member- Aug 20, 2018
7. XO, last post of a black/brown member- Jan 9, 2017
8. ZTA, could not find any posts of black/brown members. Did find two pictures of members posing with black/brown children on mission trips.

Again, these are not including instagram albums or stories. Posts your black/brown members on your feed. Share that your chapter is proud to be diverse!

Blacks are not trophies to put on display! This post demeans my African American friends.

I’m interested in joining a traditionally black sorority. I’d be a minority in that group. Would I and could I join one as a non- black or brown sister? I don’t see any pictures of whites in these groups. This needs to change!

There’s nothing wrong with wanting to see diversity on the Instagram and in the houses. I’m a minority and it was important for me to feel accepted in my chapter. Maybe we shouldn’t be keeping a tally on Instagram posts, but I think the overall message is that it’s important to include all members on social media and that it might not be the best look to only show white girls all the time when they don’t make up 100% of the chapter
