greek unity
by: Once AgainDG has chosen not to unite with other groups in the Greek community and participate in group homecoming nominations... Nice move DG... not. Surprised? Not here.

From someone who is now a senior....greek unity means not bashing any individual house. I hate Homecoming in general. We want to do so much better than every other sorority and then for one week act like we are all cheering for each other. Sorry, but down here in what y'all call the "lower" houses, girls from other houses always act like they are better. So sorry if I don't cheer for your upper tier queen that has never talked to me before. I don't know how to do Homecoming, I don't think the block vote or DG are right. At least they know who they are supporting instead of building up girls that turn around say "Oh but our sorority is #1 and hers isn't."

It shouldn't be greek dominated. If the best people for it are greek, then they'll win. But someone should at least stand a fair chance. I think everyone should nominate who they want and a panel picks the three that get to run like Mr/Miss MSU. That way everyone gets the same chance. It's been crazy the past few years and everyone is over it, especially the nongreeks we hound to vote.

I just want to congratulate every girl that made Homecoming Court this year and every girl who worked hard campaigning. As a junior with several close friends in the house, DG is included in this. I also want to point out that last night I saw several DG's congratulating non-DGs on their wins in person and over social media. And today there were several campaigning for Miss MSU (for 2 different candidates that I personally noticed). I just want everyone to remember, in the spirit of greek unity, not to tear others down. We can't understand it without being a member, but my friends have alluded to the issues members are having with advisors controlling their actions and I couldn't imagine not being able to make decisions for my chapter but having decisions forced on us. I think as a Panhellenic community we should support them while girls try to figure this out from the inside instead of bash from the outside. Just my 2 cents. Congrats to everyone again.

I like the way Mr/Miss MSU is handled. Any group can nominate a member for these honors then a committee selects through interview and qualifications the names that will actually be on the ballot. This process is not perfect and I am sure at time can be quite political but it seems to work. I wish that the Homecoming Court was made up of one elected maid from each class and one maid chosen by the MSU student athletes. As it stands now, Greeks comprise 100% of the court which in no way reflects the composition of the MSU student body. Each house should only be allowed to nominate one person for a maid/Queen. My understanding is that years ago (6 or 7) all houses worked together and nominated one Greek per class while the other spot was nominated by other groups such as the Famous Maroon Band, Pan-Hellenic sororities or clubs on campus. DG broke away and that is where the crazy campaigning began (by everyone not just DG) and independents were wiped off the Homecoming Court.
