greek unity

by: Once Again

DG has chosen not to unite with other groups in the Greek community and participate in group homecoming nominations... Nice move DG... not. Surprised? Not here.

It is what it is ... they simply make themselves look bad and isolate themselves from other groups by their choices. It's sad because individually they have some really great girls.

From someone who is now a senior....greek unity means not bashing any individual house. I hate Homecoming in general. We want to do so much better than every other sorority and then for one week act like we are all cheering for each other. Sorry, but down here in what y'all call the "lower" houses, girls from other houses always act like they are better. So sorry if I don't cheer for your upper tier queen that has never talked to me before. I don't know how to do Homecoming, I don't think the block vote or DG are right. At least they know who they are supporting instead of building up girls that turn around say "Oh but our sorority is #1 and hers isn't."

I like the way Mr/Miss MSU is handled. Any group can nominate a member for these honors then a committee selects through interview and qualifications the names that will actually be on the ballot. This process is not perfect and I am sure at time can be quite political but it seems to work. I wish that the Homecoming Court was made up of one elected maid from each class and one maid chosen by the MSU student athletes. As it stands now, Greeks comprise 100% of the court which in no way reflects the composition of the MSU student body. Each house should only be allowed to nominate one person for a maid/Queen. My understanding is that years ago (6 or 7) all houses worked together and nominated one Greek per class while the other spot was nominated by other groups such as the Famous Maroon Band, Pan-Hellenic sororities or clubs on campus. DG broke away and that is where the crazy campaigning began (by everyone not just DG) and independents were wiped off the Homecoming Court.

It shouldn't be greek dominated. If the best people for it are greek, then they'll win. But someone should at least stand a fair chance. I think everyone should nominate who they want and a panel picks the three that get to run like Mr/Miss MSU. That way everyone gets the same chance. It's been crazy the past few years and everyone is over it, especially the nongreeks we hound to vote.

I dropped my sorority so I'm not sure where else to ask. When did they change the rule so that you can campaign for Miss MSU now? You couldn't before.

Maybe you can only use social media to campaign for Miss MSU. I remember seeing it last year for Miss MSU and that is all I have seen this year.

Queen: Jenni Brown
Senior: Bri Stewart & Kaeley Gemmil
Junior: Camile Jones & Kacie Green
Sophmore: Morgan Ashley McCormick & Taylor Thoms
Freshmen: Halee Register & Margaret Burleson

Mr&Miss to be voted on tomorrow. Block vote won Queen and every maid and DG won every other maid (actually I think by vote they won Senior outright and came in 2nd for the others).

SA put out a tweet earlier tonight with a link to the actual results with the vote count. The post above is correct. The united sororities won Queen and one maid in each class. DG won one maid in each class with their senior maid winning with the most votes (11 over 2nd place).

DG really should be ashamed! All for what?
Certainly not bragging rights. They chose to step on everyone's toes.
the whole point was so Greeks didn't dominate court.
Its like taking candy from a baby...period.

this entire thread is useless. People love to hate DG. DG loves to be hated. Everyone knows, it's like beating a dead horse. Move on and grow up.......everyone.

Your comments do offer a different perspective. My only comment is from what I have been told by DG friends at several different Universities the issue with advisor control is a systemic problem for DG. I think change will be very difficult but wish them the best in their pursuit of gaining control of their chapter.

I just want to congratulate every girl that made Homecoming Court this year and every girl who worked hard campaigning. As a junior with several close friends in the house, DG is included in this. I also want to point out that last night I saw several DG's congratulating non-DGs on their wins in person and over social media. And today there were several campaigning for Miss MSU (for 2 different candidates that I personally noticed). I just want everyone to remember, in the spirit of greek unity, not to tear others down. We can't understand it without being a member, but my friends have alluded to the issues members are having with advisors controlling their actions and I couldn't imagine not being able to make decisions for my chapter but having decisions forced on us. I think as a Panhellenic community we should support them while girls try to figure this out from the inside instead of bash from the outside. Just my 2 cents. Congrats to everyone again.

I find it hard to believe that any nonDG on this campus cares enough about DG to put so much effort into writing so much at this hour of the morning in their defense. Maybe a little damage control going on here. These posts suggest we should "feel bad" for them or "cut them some slack" because of what's been inflicted on them??? Seriously??? DG sold their integrity for a few spots on Homecoming Court. They've chosen to manipulate the process to advance their own interests. This was not catty remarks on an anonymous website. This was not simply about "Greek Unity". This was an official and public decision, made with complete disregard for the Panhellenic Creed which they have committed to uphold. And, please, no more talk about advisors or alums. The girls nominated their sisters, they accepted the nominations, they campaigned and they voted privately. They individually made the choice to do each of these things when, at any time, they could have chosen differently. I hope it's worth it.

This is poster #9. I'm sorry you feel that way, but I'm not going to try and convince you because you seem to have your mind made up. I was 100% honest in what I wrote, but I did expect people to disagree. And that's fine, but I stand by all my comments. I love my sorority and all the others because of my close friends in each, even when I don't agree with the sororities actions as a whole.
