Just how I see it after recruitment

In a couple of years you will realize what really maters, and how much every house to offer. It is really obvious when you constantly put a couple of houses down and build up a couple. This does not matter in the end. I really hope y'all figure it out because I'd hate for you to miss out on friends, or constantly stay in a flux of drama between tiers, because of what you think you know. As an older girl, I also want to say that greek unity is important, but it is not limited to elections and definitely includes being positive about all houses, even if you don't like them. I think y'all need to remember that when you talk about a house falling or the "lower tier" houses. You can't say "OMG GREEK UNITY!" and then bash a house in the same sentence, even if you feel they are in the wrong. Once your a senior this will make sense, but I hope you understand long before then.

When considering involvement, awards won, grades, overall "likability"

Chi O

DG/Phi Mu (honest toss up when it comes to likability)

I think ZTA and DDD got a great group because they take a lot of out of state girls. I believe the "Top 4" miss out a lot by passing these girls up. The out of state girls are smart, mostly on scholarship, and bring a lot of diversity to MSU. Some of these girls come from huge high schools that does not allow one girl to get everything. Ole Miss has pushed back Rush just for this reason. They realized they were passing up some great girls. This gives them the chance to get to know the out of state girls that were slipping through the cracks. It seems that the middle tiers might be smarter than they are given credit.

My mother went to Ole Miss and has always had strong connections with her sorority there. We have had several discussions about their late recruitment. They did NOT push back recruitment in order to get to know out of state girls. I'm not trying to be rude but that is absolutely not the case. Recruitment at Ole Miss was moved back so that less girls would transfer if they did not get into the sorority of their choice. As far as the top 4 taking out of state girls - DG, Chi O, KD and Phi Mu pledge plenty of out of state girls. They want the top girls, period. They might not have as many as Zeta and Tri Delt but they do not "pass them up" simply because they are not from Mississippi.

Any given year, the top 4 take girls they've never heard of before rush that are OOS because alumni recommend them and they connect with the girls rushing them. I know we have dropped hometown girls that we liked for OOS girls we love. Do they have as many as other houses? Sometimes. But girls from MS and Memphis WANT the top 4, they don't always want the others.

Many of these posts keep referring to the "Top 4". You must know that is a very subjective term - especially in this discussion of out of state girls. Many of us came here with completely different ideas about which are the "top" sororities. And recruitment didn't change our opinion very much. Chi O and KD (which is pretty nonexistent in my part of the country) were still impressive to a lot of PMNs, but MANY girls didn't consider DG or Phi Mu to be more desirable than ZTA or DDD. Still don't.

Ole Miss pushed back their recruitment years ago. Their reason? I think there are plenty of benefits, but the main reason is that they want girls to find their own identity OUTSIDE of their sorority.

Other great benefits of having a late recruitment is that is gives PNM's more time to decide if sorority life is for them. A lot of girls from OOS may not realize that recruitment is before school starts.. which causes them to miss out on recruitment as a freshmen. Another reason, it allows the sororities to know how a girl will adapt to college. It also allows for a spring initiation for all sororities, allowing them to initiate (or not initiate) based on first semester GPA. The only downfall I see of a late recruitment is actives and PNMs being in class.

Maybe Ole Miss has ONE thing going for them.

Well, three of my first cousins graduated from Ole Miss in the past 8 years, one was KD, one DG and the other Phi Mu. So I have connections there too. I am not trying to be rude either, but what you say might have some truth to it, but so does mine. My KD cousin said they lost out on so many out of state girls because they did not know them and didn't have girls pushing for them from their high schools. The girls that come from the Atlanta, GA area, for example, come from high schools with 700-900 graduates. Those girls do not come to college with a resume that say they were elected, selected or were in every single popular activity in high school because the competition is so great. I know a girl from an Atlanta area school that had over 800 graduate with her and the school she went to is a top 10% ranked public high school in the nation. These girls from some of these big schools do activities in high school we have never heard of before. And I can tell you also from first hand knowledge that MSU is recruiting these high school students out of state hard. Do you ever wonder why we have so many out of state students??? I am just stating that one of the considerations of Ole Miss was to move rush back was because the out of state girls were getting passed over because they were not known. I think that some of us girls in the top sororities should take a look at maybe how smart ZTA and DDD are thinking about their recruitment with out of state girls going forward.

A lot of hate being shown toward several groups. In case you don't know, , hate rankings can be reported and will be removed by the administrators of this site so when you see a ranking or comment that is completely malicious in nature, it can be reported and removed because no group deserves to have lies posted about them.

Chi O/KD - these groups have been top 3 for years and now stand out as the top 2 on campus. Both Chi O and KD are well liked by other Greeks
Phi Mu - traditionally 4th but they have greatly improved and another group has slipped allowing them to move up. Phi Mu is not well liked by other sororities due to their less than stellar sportsmanship (twitter comments etc.). They are popular with fraternities because they are wild.
DG - this group was very recently in the top 3 but have taken a huge drop in popularity with all Greeks due to being far too competitive.
DDD/ZTA - these are 2 very respectable groups with great sisterhood and sweet girls. Both are super passionate about their popular philanthropies.
Pi Phi/ADPi - the 2 newest groups on campus. Working hard to become more involved on campus. Nice girls!

Glad this is only an opinion site. Boy, are you wrong. Looks like in your post the ONLY group you belittle is phi mu. I happen to be in one of the top two and am very very happy phi mu has been so successful the passed 3 years! It only appears you're jealous when you belittle another. Truth is my sorority has had great swaps with them and we love these girls. They are absolutely no wilder than ANY other group. they are liked by every group except a few within a few, and that goes for every group. 100percent of every girl in every group is not liked! Just look at their accomplishments already that required votes! Homecoming, miss msu run off, SA officers and class officers. Not to mention freshman forum, diamond girls, alumni delegate, road runner, etc.Stop with the negative cuz you're in the minority opinion.phi Mu is a top 3 because they are very involved and very liked....period. not because another group is falling or because they're wild, that's really ignorant.

I love how girls (or parents or alums) come on this site and preface their comments by saying they are in such and such group then go on to shamelessly promote their sorority. Seriously Phi Mu, no one cares enough about your ranking to spend that much time trying to change people's opinion of you.

I feel very confident that the only groups who would not agree with my comments are Phi Mu and DG. Thank you for proving my point by your obvious self promotion. Only a Phi Mu would make a running list of accomplishments. I did mention that Phi Mu had improved greatly and I also mentioned that DG has slipped (by the way that's a negative comment about them too). By the way, a committee chose the 3 Miss MSU finalists not popular vote. When it came to popular vote for the winner your candidate lost.

Phi Mu has stepped it up, but they are NOT well liked. They're just as competitive as DG, just more sneaky about it. Phi Mu will do anything to be on top and everyone knows it. Its a toss up between DG and Phi Mu for 3 aand 4 because neither is very likeable from the outside!

I love how girls get on here, too. When negatives are written about any of the top 4 sororities it just proves the point that others are very jealous(although they shouldn't be). There is obviously a reason for being a top 4 and a reason for having a stellar rush. I don't think it's because they're not liked. I would hope that everyone would promote their own sorority....no shame in that...you obviously are either not in one or are not happy with yours. And btw someone is very obviously trying to change opinions on this site(not working). Lighten up! Love your own group as well as promote them. Big shout out to DG and PHI MU.

Why is it that if a comment is made about a house, they assume it is from the "bottom four?" Last time I checked most consider it the top 3 houses. But whatever you say, darling. (BTW, I am one of the top 3 so your point is invalid phi mu)

I am a Kappa Delta sweetie and my best friend from my hometown is a phi mu.
So yeah, we know all their accomplishments. You should too.
You attributed their success to others failures and "wildness".
I certainly hope you are not a kd.......you're embarrassing. Be happy for all groups!

Someone is very very jealous. And to SNC you really should try to be a nicer person.you sound so angered. Be Happy for these girls and especially for even the ones in a run off...try not to be so harsh.

I think that with like ability, involvement, overall chapter numbers, this pledge class etc.... Rankings haven't changed much but there are some bigger divides between ranks.

XO/KD undoubtable top two
Phi Mu/DG These two can swap on preference... each have their positives
DDD/ZTA/Pi Phi Pretty solid for now
ADPi Still really new
